The African American Islamic Institute (AAII) is an international humanitarian Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), founded in 1988 in Senegal, West Africa by Shaykh Hassan Ali Cisse.AAII’s Mission is to develop sustainable human and natural resources that promote Education, Health Care, Empowerment of Women, Protection of Children, Alleviation of Hunger and Poverty, and Promotion of Peace. As an Institute of Nasrul ‘ilm (Islamic Knowledge Benefiting Humanity), the teachings of Islam provide the foundation for AAII’s humanitarian activities:

- Teach the Unlettered
- Pursue Knowledge
- Foster Peace Among Mankind

AAII’s Founder and Chairman served as the first Chairman of AAII’s International Executive Board of Directors. He is succeeded by Shaykh Tidiane Ali Cisse, AAII’s current President.The Board meets annually in Kaolack, Senegal and is comprised of the principal officers of AAIIAffiliates. Members of the Board vote on policy, programs, affiliations and fiscal matters. EachAAII Affiliate has its own Board of Directors, with AAII’s President serving as its Chairman. The primary responsibility of each Board is to determine the policies and practices of the Affiliate in keeping with the moral and ethical teachings of Islam and to assure the fiscal accountability of the organization.
